Nebbiolo...The Greatest Grape in the Italian Wine Land
From venue:
What apparently began life in 1266C.E. as the "nibiol" grape, has now become the finest wine grape in all of Italy: NEBBIOLO. Unlike the Pinot Noir grape...for some, the finest grape on the planet...Nebbiolo combines quality AND isolation (it simply does not grow everywhere).
Like Pinot Noir, it requires very careful winemaking to ensure its boatload of tannins / extract are perfectly balanced with its ethereal aromatics.
Predominantly found in the northwest of Italy, in the Piedmont and Lombardy regions, it gives voice to these incredible foothills of the Alps. Of course, we will visit the communes of Barolo and Barbaresco, where the varietal is the king of all vinous expressions. We will also venture further north to the Alto Piemonte, where the wines of Carema / Gattinara / Boca +++ hold forth. And we will move across the regional border to Valtellina, where heroic winemaking is at its finest. It will be an incredible journey.
The specifics of the event:
it will be a seated gathering, at communal tables
6 wines will be enjoyed during the class + a welcome wine
there will be a snack, because we want your bellies to be happy
there will be instruction and conversation...this is a class after all...
lasting roughly 60 minutes...and Thomas will be leading this class
there will not be a test at the finish of the class
We very much look forward to celebrating the Nebbiolo world of grape juice with you.
